Product Description An integrated approach to camping/survival/rescue. Developed by Tool Logic, the SL3 is a complete survival kit weighing only 78 g (2.7 oz). A razor sharp blade with a spear point shape, an all-weather FireSteel fire starter and a loud emergency whistle makes the SL3 the natural choice for all outdoor activities. The blade has sufficient curve for most field chores and can be opened and closed with one hand. The 50/50 serrations add utility in both cutting and sawing. The SL3 is not only well thought out, it is rugged enough to live up to its slogan - Built for Life.

Works January 6, 2009 I'm only an occasional backcountry outdoorsman. However, the knife that I received was very sharp and has held the edge reasonably (although I didn't buy this for everyday use and don't use it as such, I carry a folding razor knife for that). In addition, the Firesteel sheds showers of sparks with just one draw of the back of the knife across it. I cringe at the thought of scrapping the sharpened blade across any kind of metal or abrasive surface other than a diamond hone. The way I see it, for a little more money I got a knife with the Firesteel that I would have bought anyhow, and received a usable knife that keeps both in the same package. This also creates for less chance of losing or not being able to easily find the Firesteel. The little plastic piece at the end of the lanyard even glows, although faintly, to make it easier to find in the dark. Great design and tool for the price.
Not what I had hoped for August 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I first purchased this knife, it was basically for a trial, as I had planned on getting one for each of the groomsman in my wedding. I was very excited to use the firesteel to light a campfire for my family. I am a veteran outdoorsman and have lit fires in some pretty hairry situations. I was unable to get a fire lit with the firesteel using very dry grass and tiny twigs. I understand it takes some getting used to so I did not let it discourage me too much. But about a month later when half of the plastic on the knife broke right off, I decided I would not give this as a gift to my best friends. Now it reminds me of a cheap little knife you would get at a gas station. The blade is sharp enough for minor tasks, but I wouldn't be sad if I lost what's left of this knife and didn't ever see it again. I would not spend more than $10 on another one of these. It's a novelty item at this standard of quality. A great idea, but needs to be more durable.
Great knife and extras too!!! November 18, 2007 I've tried other Firesteel products and this is the first one I've gotten with a survival knife along for the ride. Tool Logic makes the knife part and I've used it on a coupld camping trips this year. Now I don't have to carry a separate Swedish Firesteel cause its incorporated in the handle.
Nice idea, but falls short November 17, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am not impressed with this package. The blade is dull and the steel is cheap, not holding an edge. The Firesteel adds too much bulk to the handle to effectively use the knife for most cutting shores. This item is pricey but fails to deliver a quality tool. If you like gimmicky items to show, but not use, this was designed for you.
Like a survivial kit in one small package! September 2, 2007 This is a great tool to carry around if you spend alot of time outdoors...it has a great Swedish Firesteel incorporated in the handle....you can start a fire (or at least make some great 5000 degree sparks to impress your mates). I've also used the signal whistle.
