5 out of 5 stars Good knife but really big.   December 20, 2007
Yeah, the sheath is very tight, the design of the top means it snaps shut on the knife and it's very hard to remove. This isn't a knife most people are going to be carrying around on their belt, more something you'd carry on a combat vest or in a truck glovebox or even toolbox. It's hard to get a feel for the size of a knife you haven't handled but let's put it this way, this knife wouldn't look out of place in Commando or Rambo. I got it to use and abuse on the ranch, for that it's fine. You can butcher an animal or cut back brush with this thing, but it isn't handy, it's not something you'd want to fish out to open a package or sharpen a pencil.

5 out of 5 stars One great knife   September 6, 2007

I bought this knife because I have other SOG knives and I was well aware of SOG's reputation as the maker of some of the best knives on the planet. I was not disappointed. From the outstanding quality and durability to the perfect balance in the hand, it is easy to see why this is the choosen knife maker of the US military. Even though this particular knife, the tigershark, is one of the biggest sheath knives you can own outside of a machete, it will still do anything a smaller knife can do, from camp chores to slicing rope. You can easily manuver it with one hand and not feel like you are trying to cut with an axe. With its size and strength the tigershark can tackle jobs you shouldn't attempt with your folding knife. It may seem big at first but use it awhile and it will start to feel natural in your hand. I highly recommend the tigershark as one of the best survival knives I have every seen.

4 out of 5 stars Handsome looking knife, questionable sheath design   March 3, 2006

This knife is very handsome looking knife, and is very sharp and durable.
Although I haven't done much abuse to this knife yet, it seems to me that this knife has the best edge retention among some of other knives I have.

However, one thing I don't really like is SOG's kydex sheath design. They argue that the design is very practical. Well, maybe it just depends on the taste of user.
For me, the fact that kydex sheath gives little rust to blade is good. However, its design is not very handy to carry unless you're wearing BDU with number of belts and straps. Also, although I don't know whether it is same to other Tigershark, the sheath's mouth was way too tight to draw the knife. Sure, it will hold the knife from falling off when strapped upside down. However, it is a problem if I have to use quite a force to draw the knife from sheath. I also have SEAL 2000 and SEAL PUP, the brothers of Tigershark, but both of their sheath had well-balanced tension.
According to the SOG website, it says that I can adjust the tenstion myself. I tried it. Now it is a bit better, yet still too tight to draw the knife smoothly.

To conclude, all of my complaints are about sheath. For knife itself, I am completely satisfied.
