5 out of 5 stars AUS6 is fine   July 27, 2007
With all of the exotic steels out there folks have become "steel snobs" AUS 6 is getting a lot of bad press. I think people are forgetting that the AUS series is an exotic blade and contrary to what I keep hearing, far superior to 440s. I am in love with AUS 6! This steel is soft and loses it's edge after a few rough cuts however, this can be remedied in just a few swipes across a good sharpening stone. I keep one of those small stones in the sheath (I got the nylon sheath, not the Kydex). I know there are some really advanced stainless steels out there like the ATS-34 and then there are some cool alloys but sharpening those things can make them more trouble than they are worth. I know that AUS 6 supposedly attracts rust but if you keep it dry and clean with a little oil, it will be fine. I just wipe on a little 2-in-1 oil every once in a while and then wipe it clean. So far, I have used mine quite a bit and the powder coat is holding on well but from what I have been reading on some of the knife boards it will eventually come off. If that happens I will update this review to make it a 3. One more thing I want to comment on is the size. The pup is a perfect conceal knife or open carry.

4 out of 5 stars Great Grip, Super Sharp Blade.   January 11, 2007

With knives at this price level, you want something sturdy and reliable, and not much flash. You get those features with this knife. Like most SOG Products, this one delivers. It is the right size for an adult hand without being cumbersome. This knife, however, is not for concealment. I bought it for a trip to Asia. It wasn't very popular with the Park Police in Cambodia. I had to keep it in my pack. That is the only take away from the knife, the sheath is pretty bulky. But I guess the people who it is made for in name (SEALS) don't care about concealed or not.

3 out of 5 stars Somewhat expensive for what you get.   February 21, 2005

I bought the Sealpup for use as a dive knife, and after a year of use have this to say about the knife.

-The original sheath isn't the most comfortable in use. Doesn't seem to fit the knife that well.
-The phosphate finish on the blade isn't as corrosion resistant as I had expected. Not much better than a typical stainless steel blade. However, the blade keeps it's edge extemely well.
-The handle doesn't grip as well as other knives when wet.

Overall, I'm not sure it's performance justifies the relatively high price this knife costs.

4 out of 5 stars SOG Craftmanship   May 2, 2004

Pro's: Weighted nicely, solid construction, extreme factory sharpness, no-slip grip, and the coating doesn't scratch off like a lot of other coated knives.
Cons: Sheath definately needs some re-designing- too thick for comfortable concealed carry- if want to rock this one comfortably, be prepared for it to be visible to other people. There is also something a little bit awkward about the scale, which may be remedied by getting the full size one.

All in all, a very handy and practical kinfe- the pro's definately outweigh the con's on this one. Keep up the good work, SOG!

4 out of 5 stars Great value, quality knife   July 25, 2003

Among other knives in it's class, this knife is one of my favorites due to the low cost, the coated blade, and the weighting. Comes extremely sharp- only downside is the sheath. I had to slightly modify it in order to make it practical for concealed carry, but after that it was fairly easy to conceal. Two thumbs up.
